Why am I a Baptist?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Why am I a Baptist?

On Wednesday Night, July 12th, we will be studying Baptist Doctrine or Baptist Teachings.  We will try to answer the question “Why am I a Baptist?”    The most important question to answer is “Why am I a Christian?”   Beyond basic Christianity, there is the issue of Denomination.  Why are there Christian Denominations?  If all Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Living Word of God and that the Bible is the Written Word of God, why can’t we all agree about Jesus and worship together?

The reason for various denominations of Christianity is because there are a variety of interpretations and understandings of what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus according to the Bible.  While theology is very important, many people choose a Christian Denomination based on other factors as well. Some belong to a particular church because their family does.  Some attend a particular church because it offers convenient worship times or because it’s located near their home. Some choose a church because of  style of music. Some choose a church because of programs (children, youth, senior adult, etc). Some join a church because of the architecture of the building.
