On Wednesday Night, April 20^th, we will be studying “Holiness.” What does it mean to be Holy? Holiness must be important because over a dozen times in Scripture the LORD says “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

The word “Holy” in Hebrew is “Qadosh” which can be translated in a variety of ways – saved, separated, sacred, sanctified, special, consecrated, different, hallowed, and/or holy.  We get the idea of what God expects when He tells us to be “Holy” in verses like Exo 19:5 “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

Apparently, when the Lord tells us to “Be Holy” – He means that we should walk and talk and live in such a way that people who know us would be drawn toward a relationship with God because of the way we live our lives.

When we get to the New Testament, Jesus taught us the same thing. He used the metaphors of Salt and Light in His Sermon on the Mount to illustrate how Christians should be “change agents” – teaching the people of the world around us how God expects people to live.

What is this “Holy” attitude or behavior or lifestyle that Christians are supposed to display that changes the world? As we prepare for this discussion, let’s begin at the beginning:
