Transgender?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Transgender?

On Wednesday Night, March 3rd, at 6:30pm, we will have a study about Transgenderism. In recent months, I have received several requests for advice on how to understand a loved one who claims to be transgender (or some combination of LGBT). Transgenderism is defined in the Cambridge Dictionary as  “the condition of someone feeling that they are not the same gender (or sex) as the one they had or were said to have at birth.”

This topic is difficult for some of the older generation to grasp, because 50 years ago any sexuality that was not heterosexuality was considered taboo and was carefully kept “in the closet.” But now transgenderism is considered legal, moral,  desirable, and something to celebrate.  This transgender phenomenon is promoted in schools, sports, music, movies, social media, business, even government. Our new President Joe Biden – with all the crises he has on his plate like needing to confirm 15 new White House Cabinet Secretaries by the Senate, the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, economic problems caused by COVID closings, a belligerent China increasing in strength, and Global Climate Change (which is supposed to kill us all in 10 years) – still on DAY 1 of his administration Pres Biden thought that transgender issues were so important that he signed an Executive Order on “Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation.”  And the US House of Representatives just passed a similar Gender “Equality” bill last week.

Whatever you celebrate you tend to get more of. Last week, Gallup Poll issued a new report stating that “LGBT Identification rises to 5.6% in the Latest U.S. Estimate.”  That is up from 3.4% just 10 years ago. The largest demographic from that 5.6% survey were Gen Z’s (born between 1997-2002) where 16% claimed to be LGBT.

However, the Bible still forbids LGBT practices. How are Christians supposed to handle this issue with our family and friends who are adopting these forbidden lifestyles?

Do you have a friend or family member who claims to be LGBT?
