At the Southern Baptist Convention meeting on June 14, 2017 – the SBC passed a resolution “On The Anti-Gospel Of Alt-Right White Supremacy”… The resolution read as follows: “RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention, meeting in Phoenix, Arizona… decry every form of racism, including alt-right white supremacy, as antithetical to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”   The Resolution was originally proposed on June 13^th by African American Pastor Dwight McKissic from Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, but it was declined by the Resolutions committee until there was a social media uproar which caused the committee to reconsider and present the resolution to the messengers.

The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the SBC said “The resolution initially caused confusion because many Baptists— like most other Americans— are not familiar with the movement. A majority of U.S. adults (54 percent) say they have heard “nothing at all” about the “alt-right” movement, and another 28 percent have heard only “a little” about it, according to a Pew Research Center survey taken last year.

Before we discuss this issue, I wanted to see how many people in our group were familiar with the “Alt-Right.” So — prior to reading this article, or hearing about the Resolution at the Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix,
