Should we pray “Thy will be done”?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Should we pray “Thy will be done”?

Our Wednesday night topic for Oct 10th will be a discussion on Prayer. We’ve had several questions asked about prayer. Is it necessary to say “Thy will be Done”, or “In Jesus Name”, or “Amen” in order to pray a proper prayer? Why do we say these things? Where do these phrases come from?

Several preachers from the “Word of Faith” movement teach that to add “Thy will be Done” or “If it is Thy will” actually turns a prayer of faith into a prayer of doubt. As believers who are filled with the Holy Spirit, we should know the will of God and then ask for the Lords blessing, or healing, or prosperity, or solution to our problems with boldness & confidence. They even have lists of verses that prove that it is Gods will that His people have all these things; therefore, we should come boldly to the Lord and demand these things. But to offer a prayer of faith and then close the prayer with “if it is Thy Will” or “Thy will be Done” allows doubt to enter our minds and negate our faith.
