Should Christians give Aid to our Enemies?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Should Christians give Aid to our Enemies?

We will be taking a Christmas break on Wednesday Night, December 28th – but when we return on January 4th, we will be trying to answer the question that was recently posted on the Northlake Blog:

“While following the latest developments in North Korea on Fox news, there was an item discussed that said the US was on the verge of resuming food supplies to this nation who has our worst interests at heart. Is it non-Christian to not do this? In consideration of our own economic plight, and the thousands of Americans who have problems putting three meals a day on their plates, and also many nations who profess to be our allies with the same problem, it seems foolhardy to me that we would take food out of our own people’s mouths to feed a nation that has more than a one million person standing army, and whose track record is definitely anti-American. Your thoughts, please.”

In the Sermon on the Mount (Mat 5: 43-45), Jesus said ” You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,  that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

BUT – in Isaiah 39 – the Lord rebukes or reprimands King Hezekiah for becoming too friendly with his enemies from Babylon.

SO – to Love & Do Good to our Enemies – OR – NOT to Love & Do Good to our Enemies – THAT is the QUESTION !
