New Years Resolutions for Christians

Home > Pastor's Blog > New Years Resolutions for Christians

Happy New Year! – Our Wednesday Night study for Jan 2nd, will be New Years Resolutions for Christians. It is customary in our country for people to resolve to do better this year than we did last year. The most popular choices for resolutions are -losing weight, exercising more, quit smoking (or drinking), get out of debt, save money, etc.

Hopefully, Christians would have a more spiritual list of resolutions. It is common to hear Christians resolve to read the Bible through in one year, to pray more, to give more, to witness more, or to serve more. As we approach 2013, Why should Christians limit themselves to such small goals? Why not be bold and resolve to be PERFECT? According to Mat 5:48, Perfection is not only a Christian Goal, it is the Lords Command. “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

I was recently studying some church growth materials which encouraged churches to set SMART goals – Specific – Measurable – Accountable – Realistic – Time Sensitive.  Is Spiritual Perfection a SMART goal?  Is Spiritual Perfection even possible?  Feel free to comment.
