Islam, A Religion of Peace?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Islam, A Religion of Peace?

On Wednesday Night, March 11th, we will discuss whether Islam is a Religion of Peace. We live in confusing times. In the last 15 years, we have watched as Islamic terrorists knocked down buildings, detonated bombs, and beheaded people in the name of Allah. And while we are observing the horror, our leaders (both Democrat and Republican) are careful to warn us not to over react because Islam is a Religion of Peace.  President George W. Bush gave an “Islam is Peace” speech only a few days after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in 2001. President Barak Obama includes references to the Peaceful Religion of Islam in his speeches around the world. Then we have Politicians from “both sides of the aisle” and the press joining in to make sure that while our Christians brothers and sisters are being murdered in the Middle East that no one in America wants to retaliate against any Muslim organizations here.

Are our leaders right?  Is Islam a peaceful religion that has been “hijacked” by a few fundamentalist zealots?  Not everyone who claims the name of Jesus Christ acts the way Jesus taught us to act. Maybe Islam is dealing with the same problem. Is Islam getting a bad reputation because of the bad behavior of a few?   What do you think?
