How do we receive eternal salvation?

Home > Pastor's Blog > How do we receive eternal salvation?

On Wednesday Night, June 13th – we will be studying a quote from Philippians 2:12  “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” What does this mean?  Does the salvation that we have in Jesus Christ come to us by Grace or by Works?

In Ephesians 2:8, the Apostle Paul says “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.”  and then in Philippians 2:12, Paul says “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”   Grace means an undeserved gift  – something that God gives us that we don’t deserve, can’t afford, and that we are unable to work long enough or hard enough to pay for.  Grace is “Not of Works.”  But then, Paul adds “work out your own salvation.”   Is this a contradiction?

So, the question for the evening is:
