Have Southern Baptists surrendered in the fight to protect natural marriage?

On Wednesday Night, May 7th, we will try to answer the question – Have Southern Baptists surrendered in the fight to protect natural marriage?  Recently, I received a forwarded email from onenewsnow.com which is a division of the American Family Association. The writer, Bryan Fischer, was obviously upset at some remarks made by Russell Moore (President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention) in an April 4th interview with the Washington Examiner. In the interview, Dr. Moore said “we need to start preparing our churches for a new generation… same-sex marriage is inevitable in American culture… [trying to protect natural marriage with a Constitutional Amendment] is “a politically ridiculous thing to do right now…  Moore went on to say that the best we can hope for in a Republican presidential candidate in 2016 is not an anti-gay marriage proponent, but someone who “understands the public good of marriage and one who is not hostile to evangelical concerns.”

Fischer from AFA accused Moore of having a “weak kneed view” and of leading the Southern Baptist Convention to “run up the white flag of surrender.”  He went on to say that Moore’s “pessimism is unbecoming for a man whose role is to lead the largest protestant denomination in America… and whose task is returning our nation to it’s moral center.”
