Discipleship is NOT Rocket Science

Home > Pastor's Blog > Discipleship is NOT Rocket Science

On Wednesday Night, July 22nd, at 6:30pm, we will study “Christian Discipleship.” Since the COVID-19 pandemic has forced churches like ours to offer our services “online”, our messages have reached far beyond our local area. We have received messages from people around the country and a few from around the world.

Many people are saying that their pastors are not systematically preaching through the Bible and applying God’s Truth to the situations we find ourselves in today. Instead, they say some are preaching “real good, feel good” sermons to try to keep people happy. Others are preaching “social justice”, “critical race theory”, and liberal “political correctness” in order to appear to be “relevant.”

Some people who are watching “online” are saying that they have visited other churches and found the same type of politically correct “worship” and many have gotten discouraged and quit church. I encourage them that if they can’t find a Bible believing/ Bible preaching church to find likeminded believers and start a Bible Study or Church in their home. But then I hear that they do not know where to begin. They say they cannot teach the Bible to others.

I believe that we have made Christian Discipleship TOO Complicated. Discipleship is not rocket science. Jesus thought that His Gospel was simple enough that a child could understand it (Luk 18:15-17). Jesus thought that His Gospel was simple enough that any disciple should be able to make other disciples. In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus told His disciples to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Have you ever made a disciple of Christ?
