Discipleship

Home > Pastor's Blog > Discipleship

On Wednesday Night, Oct 2nd , we will have a discussion about “Discipleship”. In our discussion last week, we talked about  HOW MUCH should a Christian be required to compromise in order to accommodate people with values different than ours.  We talked about situations where the requirement to obey the Laws of the State would require a Christian to violate the Laws of God. Then we transitioned into a discussion about “the Cost of Discipleship” and how many Christians both past and present endure persecution in order to be a faithful disciple or follower of Jesus Christ. At that point, discipleship moves from small group Bible study to a real life commitment. How do we “make disciples” who have that level of commitment to Jesus Christ?

Currently, our Deacons & Yokefellows are taking a course on Sunday evenings about discipleship. The course is based on a book by Francis Chan called “Multiply.”  The main point of the book is that being a disciple of Jesus Christ is more than coming to a building, giving some money, and listening to some music and a sermon. To be a Christian disciple means that you are a “follower of Jesus Christ.” To follow Jesus means you study the Scriptures and learn to live like He lived and then go and do likewise. When you add His Great Commission to the definition; then, discipleship means to be a disciple of Christ who goes and makes other disciples of Christ.

And that will be our discussion for the evening:

Are you a disciple of Christ who has made other disciples?
