Church & Politics

Home > Pastor's Blog > Church & Politics

On Wednesday Night, July 14th, at 6:30pm, we will have a study on the Church and Politics. I’ve received several requests to study this topic. This topic is controversial on all sides. Some politicians who are religious love to court the church vote. Other politicians who are not very religious would prefer that the church stay out of politics.

This topic is also controversial within the church. Some Christians believe that churches should be “salt and light” using politics to change the culture of society toward righteousness. Other Christians think that churches should focus exclusively on the Gospel and observe the “separation of church and state.”  Back in the early 2000’s, two popular evangelical leaders, Dr. John MacArthur and Dr. James Dobson, exchanged their views in book form.  John MacArthur wrote a book in 2000 against the church being involved in politics called “Why Government Can’t Save You: An Alternative To Political Activism.”   Then in 2002, Tom Minnery (a vice president at ‘Focus on the Family’  which was founded by James Dobson), answered MacArthur with a book called  “Why You Can’t Stay Silent: A Biblical Mandate to Shape Our Culture.”

What do you think?
