On Wednesday Night, July 2^nd , we will try to answer a question posed by CNN anchor Carol Costello – “Can you be pro-life and pro-death penalty?” She asked the question after the State of Oklahoma botched the execution of Clayton Locket on April 29^th and just before the State of Georgia executed Marcus Wellons on June 17^th .

Clayton Locket was convicted for the murder of Stephanie Nieman, 19, who was kidnapped, raped, shot twice and buried alive in 1999, a month after she graduated from high school. Marcus Wellons raped and killed his 15-year-old neighbor, India Roberts, in 1989.

Carol Costello says she wrote her article in response to people like pro-life Oklahoma state representative Mike Christian – who she says voted for eight bills in four years to prevent women in Oklahoma from terminating their pregnancies – but when it came to the botched execution of Clayton Locket, Mike Christian said “I realize this may sound harsh, but as a father and former lawman, I really don’t care it it’s by lethal injection, by the electric chair, firing squad, hanging, the guillotine or being fed to the lions.” Costello said that it is hypocritical for someone to be so “pro-life” and at the same time be so “pro-death penalty.”  Though Mike Christian is a Wesleyan, Costello chose to include Southern Baptists in her article and apparently did an interview with Dr. Al Mohler, President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After listening to Dr. Mohler, she concluded that he, too, is inconsistent and hypocritical.
