9-11-01 20 Years Later

On Wednesday Night, September 8th, at 6:30pm, we will Remember 9-11-01. Back in August, we had a Bible study on some of the confusion surrounding the COVID Pandemic that we’ve endured for the last 18 months. It is also confusing to try to review America’s response to the 9-11-01 attacks which after 20 years of war ended with an unceremonious withdrawal from Afghanistan. We’ve watched the news coverage of the American retreat with hundreds of people running alongside C-17 transport planes. We saw explosions that killed or wounded dozens of American soldiers and Afghan civilians. There are conflicting news reports of perhaps hundreds of Americans and allies left behind in Afghanistan. Various news websites are reporting the cost of the war in Afghanistan alone is 2,455 American service members killed and over $2 trillion were added to the national debt and $2 trillion more will be added in veterans benefits like healthcare and disability payments.

And then, there was the news coverage of the Taliban celebrating their victory over 2 World Superpowers – the Russians in 1989 and the Americans in 2021.

Was the 20 Year War in Afghanistan worth the cost?
