“The Miracle of the Incarnation “

Home > Pastor's Blog > “The Miracle of the Incarnation “

On Wednesday Night, December 12th, we will discuss the Christmas Story also known as the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. “Incarnation” comes from a Latin term meaning “to put on flesh.” The idea comes from John 1:14 “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”. I was emailed a question from one of our study group members who asked how the incarnation happened. He had been reading the Christmas story from Matthew 1 (which is a great thing to do during this Season) and noted that Jesus was “conceived…of the Holy Spirit.” He understood that in order for Christ to be our Savior, then Christ must be sinless. Romans 3:23 “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” 2Corinthians 5:21 “For [God the Father] made [God the Son] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

So, the Bible says that God is the Father of Jesus Christ. The Question is:  How could Jesus be sinless if he had a human mother?  If Mary was human and received a sin nature like every other human being, then it would seem like Jesus would also receive a sin nature from his mother which would disqualify Christ from being our Savior.

All of that leads us to the Question for the Evening: Was the Virgin Mary the Biological Mother of Jesus?  Or was Mary simply a surrogate or incubator for the Christ child?

Was Mary the Biological or Surrogate Mother of Jesus?

  • Biological (69%, 11 Votes)
  • Surrogate (25%, 4 Votes)
  • Undecided (6%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 16
