How should a Christian respond to Suffering ?

Home > Pastor's Blog > How should a Christian respond to Suffering ?

On Wednesday Night, Jan 31st, we will continue our Winter Bible Study – “First Peter: Living as Strangers in a Secular World.”   In 1st Peter, the Apostle Peter is writing to encourage Christians on how to live in a culture that may not appreciate or may even be hostile to the way Christians think and believe.

1st – Realize that we are SECURE in Christ. Regardless of what may happen to us on Earth – we have an inheritance in heaven that is “incorruptible, undefiled, and will not fade away.”

2nd – Get SERIOUS about growing in the “grace and knowledge” of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through our study and application of the Scriptures.

3rd – Learn to SUBMIT ourselves to the Will of God in our relationships with our leaders in Government, our supervisors at Work, our spouse at Home, and our leaders in the Church.

This week, Peter gives us counsel on dealing with SUFFERING or persecution that may come our way because of our faith in Jesus Christ.  In the USA, Christians have enjoyed religious freedom. We have on occasion dealt with insults, ridicule, and name calling. However, most American Christians have never had to deal with overt persecution like our Christian brothers and sisters in Communist or Islamic countries.

What is our response to persecution?  Do we regularly pray for our fellow Christians who are being persecuted for their faith?
