Should Christians Obey the Ten Commandments?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Should Christians Obey the Ten Commandments?

On Wednesday Night, June 7th, we will try to answer the question – Should Christians Obey the Ten Commandments? This questions seems to have a straightforward answer, “Yes!”  The 10 Commandments are displayed in various court buildings in our Nation from local courts to the US Supreme Court. There have been various court battles between Christians and Non-Christians who want to remove the Ten Commandments from public places. Some Christians believe that keeping the Ten Commandments is essential to the Christian Life. Other Christians say that believers in Jesus Christ have been “Freed from the Law” and that believers are not under Law but under Grace.

In both the Old Testament (Lev 18:5) and in the New Testament (Gal 3:12), we read “It is through obeying the law that a person has life” (NLT). But the Bible also says that Christians are “free from the law” (Rom 8:2). Some Christians believe that they are so “free” in Christ that they no longer read the Old Testament because they think it is irrelevant to them.
