The UnConditional Love of God?

Home > Pastor's Blog > The UnConditional Love of God?

On Wednesday Night, January 4th, we will study the “Love of God.” The Lifeway January Bible Study for 2017 will focus on the Old Testament Book of Malachi. We will study Malachi 1:1-5 where God says “I have loved you.” But the “Children of Israel” respond “How have You loved us?”  The people obviously were NOT feeling the Love of God. Israel had been freed from their captivity in Babylon and had been allowed to return to the “Promised Land.” They had rebuilt the Temple and the Wall around the City of Jerusalem, but they were still under the control of a foreign power, the economy was bad, there were many hardships, and they were still threatened with crime and violence. The Purpose of the Book of Malachi was to prove to the people that God still loved them.

The writer of the Lifeway January Bible Study concluded that “God’s love is unconditional.”  The term “unconditional love” is not found in most Bible translations. Webster’s dictionary says “unconditional” means “not limited in any way.”  What does that mean?  Does it mean that you can Do anything you want – Live any way you want – and God still loves you?

Please come to this study prepared to discuss the “Love of God” and to answer the question:
