On Wednesday Night, August 13^th, we will be discussing Heaven. Will Heaven be Boring?  Some seem to think it will. Back in 1994, Ted Turner ( the founder of Turner Broadcasting System with Cable Channels like TBS, CNN, HLN, and TNT) was making a speech to the National Press Club and said ” Remember, heaven is going to be perfect. And I don’t really want to be there … Those of us that go to hell, which will be most of us in this room, most journalists are certainly going there. (Laughter)… But, when we get there we’ll have a chance to make things better because hell is supposed to be a mess. And heaven is perfect. Who wants to go to a place that’s perfect? Boring, boring.” (Laughter)

Since Ted Turner has never claimed to be a Christian, it is probably not a shock that he feels this way about Heaven. The shocker is – that many church members also seem to think that Heaven will be boring. If you scan the crowd during most Sunday Morning Worship services – the majority of worshippers seem to be bored with only 1 hour of worship – 1 hour of praying, praising, and preaching. The Book of Revelation, which gives us our best description of Heaven, reveals that Heaven will be a place of endless worship. So, if we are bored with only one hour of worship – what will we do when worship lasts “forever and ever”?

What will Heaven be like?  Will it be exciting or boring? Will it be satisfying or will you feel like you missed out on the big party that Ted Turner and his journalists friends are enjoying who went the other way?
