Biblical Movies

On Wednesday Night, Apr 2nd, we will have a discussion about Bible Themed Movies. It seems like in recent years Hollywood has for some reason chosen to base many of their movies on Biblical characters, events, or themes.  In the past few years, theatre’s have been offering movies like the “Left Behind” series, “The Bible” series, “The DaVinci Code,” “The Passion of the Christ,” “Son of God,” and now, “Noah.” I recently read where there may be 7 or 8 more “Biblical” movies in the making.

You would think that this would make the Christian community happy. However, Hollywood moviemakers tend to take “artistic or dramatic license” with the Bible storyline. Sometimes it’s little differences (like “Son of God”). Sometimes the finished movie does not even vaguely resemble the Biblical text (like “Noah”).

Then there is the controversy by Christians about whether it is proper and holy to even watch these movies. Some Christian leaders say that Christians should boycott such movies because Hollywood is insulting our faith. Other Christian leaders think that getting any Biblical topic into the public arena gives Christians an opportunity to interact with non-Christians and be able to share their faith.

What do you think?
