Why Do Sinners Sin?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Why Do Sinners Sin?

On Wednesday Night, Jan 22nd, we will have a discussion about our SIN problem. Why do Sinners Sin? This is a difficult topic because we live in a culture of relativism that denies sin. Sin is the idea that a person has done something wrong. Relativism says that there is no standard of right and wrong. What may be right for you may be wrong for me. Nevertheless, for those who believe that the Bible is the Word of God, God does have a standard of holiness. According to Baptist Theologian Millard Erickson, “Sin is the idea that the sinner has failed to fulfill God’s law… Sin is failure to live up to what God expects of us in act, thought, and being.”

With that definition in mind, WHY do sinners sin? Often when we are discussing sins like alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling addiction, pornography, adultery, or homosexuality – we hear people say that “they are born that way”. Others say they are not born that way, it’s their environment. Still others say that it comes from temptation by the Devil.

Sin is a big problem for all humanity. Rom 3:23 “ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom 6:23 “the wages of Sin is Death.” The reason that Christianity has survived as a world religion is because Christianity offers the cure for sin “in Christ Jesus our Lord.” But before we get to the cure, let’s try to figure out the cause.

Please participate in our poll – this week you can choose more than one answer.
