The Rapture

Home > Pastor's Blog > The Rapture

On Wednesday Night, May 1st, we will be discussing “The Rapture.”  The Rapture of the Church is a prophetic event clearly taught in the Bible.  I Thessalonians 4:15 “For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.  16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.  17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

In verse 17, the word for “caught up” is “rapturo” in Latin which is how we get the English word “rapture.” The “Rapture of the Church” is an event that will happen at the “Coming of the Lord.”  The “Dead in Christ” or believers who have died will be resurrected first and then those believers in Christ who are alive will be Raptured or “Caught up.. to meet the Lord in the air.”

One of the issues with this teaching about The Rapture has to do with the timing.  When Jesus taught about this in His sermon on the Mount of Olives in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, He also related The Rapture to a time of “Great Tribulation” which will be so severe that unless “the days were shortened, no flesh would be saved.” This has resulted in a debate among Christians.  Some believe The Rapture will occur BEFORE the Great Tribulation.  Some believe The Rapture will occur DURING the Great Tribulation. Some Believe The Rapture will occur AFTER the Great Tribulation.

This will be our discussion for the evening-
