Our Wednesday Night topic for September 19th is Gospel Parables. One of the members of our study group has asked for us to interpret Matthew 13:10-17. It is apparently a good question – because in vs 10 – the disciples asked the same question!  “Jesus, why do You speak to them in Parables?”  In Matthew 5-7, Jesus was preaching plainly – about right & wrong, good & evil, sin & salvation, time & eternity. Now, abruptly, Jesus begins preaching in parables. The disciples complain that while the stories (like the Parable of the Sower) are interesting – no one gets the point.

Then it gets even more complicated. Jesus basically says that He is teaching in parables so “they” will NOT understand.

      What is going on here?  Why did Jesus preach in parables?
