Can a Church Grow TOO Big?

Home > Pastor's Blog > Can a Church Grow TOO Big?

Our Wednesday Night Bible Study for September 28th will be focused on Church Growth. Our topic will be – “Can a Church Grow TOO Big?”  In the last 5 years, Northlake has doubled in size. We all know that in the Great Commission (Mat 28:19-20), the Lord commands His disciples to go and grow. But isn’t there limits to growth? Isn’t there a point when a church get so large that it gets numerical, impersonal, unaccountable, and uncaring?

Some of the people who have attended Northlake recently have said that the reason they joined this church is because we are a smaller, more caring church. Some say the reason that they left a larger church is because when they were members of that large church – they had to be absent from church for a few weeks and no one seemed to notice or care. If Northlake continues to grow – at what point will we become that large church that nolonger seems to care for people?

Is it possible for a church to grow so large that it nolonger obeys the Great Commission?
