Our Wednesday Night question for March 23 is: “Have we been visited by Extra-Terrestrials?”  Recently, the History Channel has been showing a series called “Ancient Aliens.” These shows feature a Swiss author named Erich von Däniken who wrote a book called Chariots of the Gods? in 1968 which became an immediate bestseller. “In it, he put forth his hypothesis that, thousands of years ago, space travelers from other planets visited Earth, where they taught humans about technology and influenced ancient religions. He is regarded by many as the father of ancient alien theory.”

Von Daniken and other Ancient Alien Theorists offer 2 types of evidence for their Extra-Terrestrial hypothesis: ancient religious texts and physical specimens such as cave drawings, stone sculptures, and pyramids.” Examples:

*MEGALITHs (or Standing Stones) like Stonehenge, located in England. Stonehenge is made up of prehistoric earthworks and a circle of Standing Stones – some weighing between 25-50 Tons!

Easter Island is famous for its 887 giant human figures with enormous heads that guard its coastline. These monolithic statues stand 13 feet high and weigh 14 tons, but some are twice as tall and much heavier.

A Few years ago, 3 Megalithic Circles were found BURIED at Göbekli Tepe in Turkey. They are estimated to have been built several thousand years before Stonehenge with average stones weigh 10 to 20 tons and the largest are 50 tons.

There are hundreds of these megaliths on various high hills scattered around the world.

*PYRAMIDs. Most of us have seen pictures of the Ziggurats in Iraq, the Egyptian Pyramids, the Mayan & Aztec Pyramids in Mexico, and the Indonesian Pyramids. And this is just a short list of the many pyramids and mounds that have been built around the world.

How could human beings without sophisticated tools or knowledge of engineering craft and transport such incredible structures? Some ancient alien theorists believe it is the work of visiting extraterrestrials.

*NAZCA LINES. These intricate hilltop designs in Peru are 50 miles long and some are 600 feet across. These designs can only be deciphered from high altitude, so ancient alien theorists believe these figures were used to guide spaceships as they came in for a landing.

*BIBLE. In the Book of Ezekiel, chapter 10, the prophet has a vision of a flying vessel accompanied by fire, smoke and a loud noise. Some ancient alien theorists have argued that the vehicle’s design closely mirrors that of a modern spaceship.
